“Wherever I go in Devon and Cornwall, residents always talk to me about road safety. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a city, town, village or tiny hamlet, road safety affects us all – and that is why I have made it a priority in my Police and Crime Plan.
“In 2021, 47 people were killed and 647 people were seriously injured on our roads. Although those figures are some of the lowest in the UK, every death or serious injury is a tragedy and we must do everything we can to prevent them.
“That’s why we set up the Vision Zero South West Road Safety Partnership, in which I chair– a collaboration of all the organisations in Devon and Cornwall who deal with road safety. Vision Zero South West has set itself the ambitious target of halving all fatal and serious collisions by 2030 and eventually eradicating them completely.”
